A project that aims towards redefining an urban block. Two front facades, two back facades, duality around an inner block courtyard.
A ruin in the historic centre of Peniche fishing and (recently) surfing town is re-thought to become a short to medium stay turistic apartments. At an urban scale, the project ‘stitches’ a new inner garden and new public facades onto an abandoned plot.
The proposal is rooted on its vernacular context, thought to be a calm yet contemporary addition to the urban fabric. The intervention follows ruin’s existing footprint, creating a front facade onto one of the town’s public spaces and a back aspect that relates to its private nature - a lush courtyard and a new smaller volume for parking and co-working.
The earth colour animates a simple and repetitive envelope, exploring the same tone in different materialities - stone, render and terracota roof tiles. Same same, but different.
